Phoebe's story in Frozen Empire sees her encountering and befriending the ghost of a teenage girl named Melody played by Emily Alyn Lind. One of which is an issue that also existed in the all-female reboot film, and it relates to the character of Phoebe.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire pushes the franchise in a new direction, yet it shares a frustrating issue with the reboot movie. While the majority of the criticism has focused on the movie's crowded cast and obsession with nostalgia, the film is also guilty of committing a crime previously committed by 's Ghostbusters.

And it's not the first time this has happened in a Ghostbusters movie. It's certainly possible Phoebe and Melody's relationship is nothing more than a friendship. When it's revealed that Melody has been working for Frozen Empire 's villain all along, Phoebe ghostbusters left feeling hurt and betrayed.

The pair share an undeniable chemistry and Phoebe appears to be happiest when she is around her new ghost friend. And as a queer person, I was doubly thrilled to see the makings of a queer romance between ghostbuster Phoebe Spengler (Mckenna Grace) and teenage ghost Melody (Emily Alyn Lind).

However, at the same time, it's equally possible that the pair share a romantic attraction. Make Phoebe Spengler (openly) gay, you cowards Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire botched a beautiful queer storyline. Frozen Empire serves as a sequel to 's Ghostbusters: Afterlife and, as such, brings back the Spengler family for another adventure.

Additionally, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any installment in the Ghostbusters franchise. Like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empirethe all-female reboot of Ghostbusters had more than its fair share of issues.

The relationship between the two is at the center of the film's emotional backbone. As such, the movie comes across as having its cake and eating it, too.
